Mona Matsuoka Turns Music, Nightlife And Identity Into A Vooglam Eyewear Capsule

Artist-brand collaborations are increasingly moving beyond endorsement and into products that reflect the creative worlds artists already inhabit.
For its new Collision capsule, eyewear brand Vooglam has partnered with New York-based model, DJ and musician Mona Matsuoka, translating her Japanese-American heritage, fashion background and ties to New York nightlife into six eyewear designs.

The collection spans optical and sun styles across nineteen colourways, with each frame named after a city connected to Matsuoka’s life and creative development.
Details include premium acetate, metal accents, experimental silhouettes and a rotating “M” logo developed specifically for the collaboration. Matsuoka says:
Our goal was to create something that reflects the many versions of ourselves we move through every day. The collection celebrates the intersections of culture, creativity, fashion, and music that continue to shape who I am.

That crossover is central to the project.
Matsuoka has built a career that moves between international runway work, DJ culture and recording music, with influences ranging from Japanese city-pop to indie, disco and electronic music.
Rather than treating those worlds as separate lanes, Collision folds them into one physical product line.
For FM PRO TECH, that is the more interesting signal.
Artist collaborations are becoming less about attaching a recognisable face to a campaign and more about translating an artist’s wider identity into product, design language and audience culture.
In Matsuoka’s case, music, nightlife, fashion and heritage are not simply references around the collection. They are the infrastructure behind it.
That makes Collision less of a standard eyewear collaboration and more of a compact example of how creative identity can now travel across industries without losing its original context.
