Eyewear brand Vooglam has released its first ever collaboration with streetwear label TOMBOGO, marrying high fashion and high function. Founded by Tommy Bogo in 2020 as an “experiential learning outlet”, TOMBOGO has designed five styles that treat eyewear as an innovation for far more than bettering one’s vision. This is perhaps best seen in The Programmer, possibly the first glasses to moonlight as a hard drive with a 64GB USB built into the acetate frame. The Architect, then, features climbing carabiners on the arms for reasons both aesthetic and vaguely practical. The Decoder can be described as ‘wearable architecture’ and The Utilitarian has a removable compass and spirit level. Dropping 16 December 16 at vooglam.com and Tombogo.com , the collection is what happens when utilitarian design gets a maximalist makeover; Y2K style meets Silicon Valley innovation. The fifth style drops at the start of next year, so keep an eye out for that, too.
